Report Summaries

  • On February 12, a ranger responded to a call on the Bay Tree Cutoff rail at Rancho San Antonio Open Space Preserve. A visitor was found inebriated to the point where he could not walk and expressed potential for self-harm. Santa Clara County Fire Department and medics were requested and the patient was transported to the parking lot by the ranger. The patient was assessed by Fire personnel and medics and was transported to the hospital by ambulance.

  • On February 14 and 16, rangers completed their annual audiogram hearing tests and respiratory N95 fit tests.

  • On February 18, a ranger responded to a medical aid call for a fall on the Jones Trail in St. Joseph’ s Hill Open Space Preserve. The patient was treated by Santa Clara County Fire Department and self-transported to the hospital.

  • On February 19, a hiker slipped and injured their right ankle on the Whittemore Gulch Trail in Purisima Creek Open Space Preserve. San Mateo County Search and Rescue assessed the injured hiker and transported them to the North Ridge Lot. The patient was transported via ambulance to the hospital.

  • On February 9, a ranger found two sections of a split-rail fence was removed adjacent to gate SA12 allowing access to the closed area of Loma Prieta Road in Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve. The fence was repaired the next day by Midpen staff.

  • On February 19, rangers temporarily closed the entrance gate to Rancho San Antonio Open Space Preserve due to high visitation causing gridlock in the parking lots. The gate was reopened within an hour as traffic in the lots subsided and normal flow returned.

  • On February 25, a trailer was left on Mt. Umunhum Road blocking approximately 75 percent of the road after becoming stuck in the snow in Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve. The subject was cited for leaving a vehicle on Midpen property and released.

  • On February 26, a ranger witnessed a vehicle collide with the keypad of the electric gate SA06 while attempting to turn around on Mt. Umunhum Road. The ranger took the driver’s license and insurance information.
