Many people wonder what Rangers do during their work day.  Midpeninsula Rangers are Generalist Rangers meaning they provide many services for the public and Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (District).

Their primary role is to enforce laws and regulations on District lands. This is shown in these reports as Violations. Violations include verbal warnings, written warnings, and citations issued by District Rangers for violations enforced by the Rangers. This include infractions, misdemeanors, and felonies.

In addition to violations, Rangers also create Reports to document violations in more detail. These reports also include information about incidents in which no violation occurred, but is of interest to the public and/or the District. Some of these incidents may include but are not limited to fatalities, medical responses, fires, and wildlife interactions.

Report Summaries are provided to give a brief summery of an incident a Ranger responded to. While most summaries are provided in the blotter, some incident summaries may not be provided. These summaries are the summaries provided by the Ranger’s Command Staff to District staff in a biweekly report. The summaries provided in the blotter are unedited from that District report.
