Report Summaries

  • On November 4, a search for a person possibly at risk began in Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve. Rangers observed a vehicle that was parked overnight for two consecutive nights and requested the police department of the registered owner's city attempt to contact the owner. The person was found shortly after, camped out in the preserve, was determined to not be at risk, and left the preserve at approximately 12:00 p.m.

  • On November 5, a ranger came across a motorcycle accident on Highway 84. The ranger requested the San Mateo County Fire Department to respond, gathered an initial impression of the patient, and assisted with traffic control. The patient was released against medical advice by Fire personnel.

  • On the morning of November 8, rangers were alerted to recent unpermitted tree work performed in an area of repeated violation in Windy Hill Open Space Preserve. A ranger documented the issue and followed up with supervising rangers.

  • On November 9 an auto burglary occurred in Windy Hill Open Space Preserve. When the victim returned from hiking, credit cards were missing from a wallet which was left in the vehicle. The victim cancelled their credit cards and was advised to report the burglary to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.

  • On November l0, a ranger discovered five plywood boards placed in a meadow in Monte Bello Open Space Preserve. The boards appeared to be reptile collection cover boards. The boards were documented and will be monitored to catch the suspect.

  • On November ll, a ranger on patrol stopped two visitors for operating electric bicycles in El Corte de Madera Creek Open Space Preserve. Both visitors initially stopped but then fled from the scene. Rangers attempted to find and detain the visitors but were unable locate them.

  • On November 12, evidence of the unlawful discharging of a weapon was found in the El Corte de Madera Creek Open Space Preserve Main Parking Lot. Fourteen 9mm shell casings were collected and a neighbor was interviewed. There are no suspects at this time.

  • On November 12, a visitor fainted in Skyline Ridge Open Space Preserve. Rangers arrived first on scene and assessed the patient. The San Mateo County Fire Department treated the patient who was released to a relative.

  • On November 19, evidence of vandalism and the discharge of a weapon were observed in Windy Hill Open Space Preserve. The plexiglass of the signboard at the top of Spring Ridge Trail had impact marks and a large round crack in the middle. There were no suspects observed or witnesses to the violations.

  • On November 23, a ranger found evidence of discharged firearms in Russian Ridge Open Space Preserve. The ranger documented and collected the evidence.

  • On November 23, rangers responded for a search and rescue of two lost hikers in Purisima Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve. Kings Mountain Fire Department did a hasty search, were unable to find the hikers, and upgraded the response to a full search and rescue. San Mateo County and Coastside Fire Department and San Mateo County Sheriff's Office responded and California Highway Patrol (CHP) sent a helicopter. After about two hours, San Mateo County Fire Department advised the lost hikers hiked out to Purisima Creek Road and flagged down a resident who drove them back up to the North Ridge parking lot. One of the hikers was evaluated, released by paramedics, and the couple left the preserve.

  • On November 23, two bicycle accidents occurred in Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve at the location of the annual Turkey Day Ride. A ranger was first on scene with the patients for both accidents, while a supervisor escorted the fire department to the scene. The bicyclist of the first accident sustained injuries to their arm and leg and was transported by ambulance to the hospital. The bicyclist of the second accident flipped over their handlebars and lost consciousness for less than a minute. The patient was transported by ground to the hospital.

  • On November 26, a ranger was first on scene to a vehicle accident blocking west bound Highway 84 in San Mateo County. The ranger provided the initial medical assessment and traffic control until CH P arrived. The ranger was released from the scene with CHP and the vehicle still on scene.
