  • On October 1, a visitor suffered a medical emergency while hiking on the North Ridge Trail in Purisima Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve. Rangers and the San Mateo County Fire Department responded, treated, the patient for a complaint of dizziness, and extricated the visitor from the preserve. The visitor refused transport and was released by Fire personnel.

  • On October 3, a bicycle accident occurred in Monte Bello Open Space Preserve. The victim sustained head and back injuries and was unconscious for an unknown amount of time. Rangers responded with the Palo Alto Fire Department and provided care for the victim while setting up a landing zone at Black Mountain. The victim was then transported to the hospital by air ambulance.

  • On October 8, a visitor injured their leg while hiking on the Meadow Trail in Windy Hill Open Space Preserve. Woodside Fire Protection District and a ranger assisted the visitor using the fire departments off-road emergency rescue vehicle (ERV). The hiker was transported to a hospital by ground ambulance.

  • On October 11, a ranger found gate SA06 vandalized with both bollards and the gate latch post knocked over in Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve. Based on vehicle tracks on the roadway, the damage was likely from being struck by a large truck.

  • On October 14, a ranger responded to a visitor whose car was broken into and wallet stolen at Bear Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve. The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office was contacted and a report was taken over the phone.

  • On October 16, a police pursuit of a murder suspect, initiated by the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety, ended on the Canyon Trail in Monte Bello Open Space Preserve, with the suspect taking his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot. The incident occurred in the early morning hours and rangers were made aware of it later in the morning. Rangers closed the trail while the deceased person and vehicle were removed .

  • On October 22, a ranger responded to a bicycle accident that occurred on the Coyote Ridge Trail in Fremont Older Open Space Preserve. The patient was unconscious for less than a minute due to hitting his head. The Santa Clara County Fire Department and Santa Clara County Park Rangers also responded. The patient was transported by ground to the hospital.

  • On October 22, a vehicle accident occurred on Alpine Road. A driver lost control of their vehicle and crashed into Russian Ridge Open Space Preserve. Two rangers were the first responders on scene then CALFIRE arrived and used a rope system to bring the driver back to the roadway and check the vehicle for leaks. The driver refused a medical evaluation by Fire personnel and was released against medical advice. California Highway Patrol responded, took a report, and arranged for a tow to return at a later date when there would be better weather conditions.

  • On October 22, the San Mateo County Fire Department responded to a vehicle accident on Highway 84 resulting in a multi casualty incident. A ranger responded for mutual aid and provided traffic control while Fire personnel treated and transported seven people to the hospital by ground ambulance.

  • On October 26, a ranger was approached in Skyline Ridge Open Space Preserve by an adult male who asked for a ride and expressed having suicidal thoughts on his hike in Monte Bello Open Space Preserve prior to seeing the ranger. The individual was provided transport and a welfare check to his home was later made through the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety.

  • On October 28, a ranger received a report of an attempted auto burglary that occurred earlier in the day in the Purisima Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve North Ridge Parking Lot. The vehicle door lock was damaged but nothing was stolen as the visitor brought all valuables with them.

  • On October 29, a ranger responded to a report of a person performing unlawful construction with power tools in Teague Hill Open Space Preserve. The suspect left the area before the ranger arrived on scene. Photos of the person taken by the witness and vehicle were provided to the ranger.
